On Creativity

There is a huge misconception thatAI is the death of creativity and that slop is going to submerge us all with mediocre content. Now let me explain why I disagree (and I am writing this myself in first person - no AI involved).
I don’t know about most of you, but I mostly have 1000 ideas constantly running through my head - of course some good and some bad - but even the good one - lets say 10-50 a day its too much for me to persue. I litterally don’t have the time.
There comes AI - a good model that is - and now all this energy can flow. I can write a book in few days - I can write lots of articles on economy and investments and most of all I can make apps to help me along the way.
For example between end of August and September I have written a whole book - and started the second - (and somehow a whole series is getting shape in my head) - I have started an economics substack and writing all the good investment strategies I wanted to try. More importantly I have made “wallstreetgame.live“ to test on paper (i.e. fake) money all these theories and investments. So now I can write, I can test - and I can see later how it performs - analyse the results - was I wrong ? is my idea working ?
My son wanted to make movies using lego figurines - so I figure out a way to make movies using still images (like the old fashioned black and white - silent movies) this way he can let his director creativity flow..
Oh - and yes - I have lounched a food blog - zucchine.org with tens of recipes - growing every day. This also has fitness side to it - so I can calculate calories - connect it to my apple watch - see how much I am moving - am I losing weight ? shoudl I change something ? Now I can connected this with the movie app .. so I can have legos explaning my recipes in a video….
I have made a map to preserve my memories that I want to re-use in LLMs stored safely online - together with a spinoff that helps me make notes for shopping etc …
I have made several computer games - some for my son based on space ships and exploration and some for grown ups based on Florence in the middle ages - politics and spycraft and governament ..
All this would have been utterly impossible without AI - is it slop - some of it - some of the food pics in my recipe blog look fake as hell - my book and my articles - I stand behind it - but have I written every word ? no! I have given the plot - the general direction - developed the characters - developed the investment thesis - made the research etc etc - when you develop an app - its not a one shot process - its a recurrent job - you start with something - you improve - you try - you improve - you try etc etc its called “agile“ process - LLM use lets you be agile - and this “agility“ is your contribution - is your creativity. You’re just delegating all the boring tasks of writing lines of code - taking silly pictures of plates of spaghetti with the coliseum in the background etc etc
That’s one of the reasons I have created “Behind the Work“ a way to show what is your effort to produce that piece of work - include also the LLM contribution - label it as such (becomes green writing :-) but people will see what you have done and why you reached those conclusions - and importantly that it wasn’t an LLM conclusion
So in conclusion - I can say for me personally AI has unleashed creativity - but yes there is a lot of slop around - medium and substack are 90% unreadable - but so its the internet and (especially) social media - but slowly, slowly you find ways to find the good guys - follow the people who have something to say
